Sanitation cleans and treats the inside of the ducts for air quality. It does not address leaks or physical damage to the ductwork itself.
It varies by household, but every few years or after a renovation or pest issue near the ductwork is a common trigger point.
It addresses odor-causing buildup inside the ducts. A persistent smell with another source, like mold or pests, may need to be looked at separately.
